RAEBUILD successfully completed the refurbishment of the toilet facilities at Burton and South Derbyshire College’s Stephen Burke Construction Academy campus in Swadlincote in January 2026. The project was undertaken to replace ageing facilities that had suffered from ongoing wear and tear, delivering a modern, durable, and hygienic environment for students and staff.
Burton and South Derbyshire College required the refurbishment of an existing toilet block at its Stephen Burke Construction Academy campus to address ageing facilities and improve the overall user experience.
The brief was to create a modern, robust, and easy-to-maintain environment that would better meet the needs of students and staff while improving hygiene standards and durability.
The project required a full internal refurbishment and reconfiguration of the existing layout, incorporating new toilet cubicles, sanitaryware, wall finishes, flooring, and building services.
A key objective was to provide facilities that would withstand the demands of a busy educational environment while delivering a clean, contemporary appearance and ensuring full compliance with current standards.
We undertook a complete strip-out of the existing toilet facilities before reconfiguring the space to accommodate a new, more efficient layout. Building works included the removal of two existing windows, with new brick and blockwork installed to create a more practical internal arrangement. New stud partitions were constructed to form four toilet cubicles, with associated alterations to plumbing and services to suit the revised layout.
The refurbishment incorporated full-height White Rock hygienic wall cladding, a new suspended ceiling, PolySafe safety flooring, and a new IPS walling system with stainless steel WC pans.
Additional improvements included a new trough sink arrangement, six hand dryers, upgraded electrical installations, and decoration to all associated woodwork. The result was a modern, durable, and easy-to-maintain facility designed for long-term use.
The completed project has transformed the existing toilet facilities into a modern, hygienic, and highly durable environment that better serves the needs of students and staff.
The upgraded layout improves functionality and user experience, while the use of robust materials and hygienic finishes ensures the facilities are well suited to a busy educational setting.
The refurbishment has significantly enhanced the appearance, cleanliness, and longevity of the toilet block, providing the college with facilities that are easier to maintain and more resilient to daily use.
Delivered successfully and to a high standard, the project represents a valuable investment in the campus infrastructure and the overall student experience.
