New Build Cafe

Overview

RAEBUILD successfully delivered the construction of the original Canalside Café at Great Haywood, Staffordshire, completing a high-quality new-build facility that has become a key destination within the popular Canalside Farm visitor attraction. The project involved the construction of a contemporary single-storey café building, designed to provide a welcoming environment for visitors while complementing its unique canalside setting.

The Brief

Canalside Farm required a purpose-built café facility to support the growing popularity of the site and provide visitors with a modern, comfortable dining environment. The new building needed to complement the rural surroundings while delivering a practical and attractive space capable of accommodating high visitor numbers throughout the year.

The project involved the construction of a new single-storey building together with associated infrastructure, external works, parking, and drainage.

Sustainability, accessibility, and long-term durability were key considerations, alongside the creation of a welcoming destination that would enhance the overall appeal of the wider Canalside Farm development and its unique location adjacent to the Trent & Mersey Canal.

The Solution

We delivered the project as a complete new-build construction, creating a steel-framed single-storey café building founded on piled foundations and reinforced concrete ring beams. The structure incorporated a combination of timber cladding, natural stone features, extensive glazing, and a modern roof system to create an attractive contemporary appearance that complemented its countryside setting.

The project included the installation of a new mains electrical supply together with sustainable drainage solutions, incorporating a bio-disc treatment system and a fully engineered soakaway designed to suit the site’s ground conditions.

Numerous specialist trades were coordinated throughout the build, including mechanical and electrical installations, aluminium doors, UPVC windows, suspended ceilings, internal finishes, external landscaping, parking facilities, and accessible routes.

Careful planning and project management ensured the successful delivery of a high-quality facility that met the client’s operational and aesthetic requirements.

The Outcome

The completed Canalside Café has become a landmark feature within the Canalside Farm complex, providing visitors with a modern, spacious, and welcoming environment in which to relax and enjoy the surrounding countryside.

The striking timber-clad building, extensive glazing, and landscaped external areas create a high-quality visitor experience while maximising views across the site and nearby canal.

The project successfully delivered a durable and energy-efficient facility that supports the continued growth of the business and enhances the wider visitor destination.

Through the combination of quality construction, sustainable infrastructure, and thoughtful design, the development has provided lasting value for the client and remains a popular destination for both local residents and visitors to Staffordshire.
