Client: Gladstone Primary Academy

Overview

RAEBUILD successfully completed the refurbishment and extension of the existing nursery building at Gladstone Primary Academy in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. The project involved a comprehensive programme of restoration, repair, and improvement works designed to modernise the facility and provide a high-quality learning environment for future generations. The scheme included a new extension, structural repairs, roofing works, replacement doors and windows, brickwork restoration, and full internal and external redecoration.

The Brief

Gladstone Primary Academy required the refurbishment and extension of its existing nursery building to create an updated facility capable of supporting future educational requirements. The existing building had suffered from deterioration in several areas, including roof structures, external fabric, doors, windows, and rainwater systems, all of which required significant improvement.

The brief called for a comprehensive programme of works that would preserve and enhance the existing building while extending the accommodation to improve functionality and usability.

Key objectives included addressing structural defects, improving the building’s weather resistance, upgrading its appearance, and creating a modern, welcoming environment for pupils and staff, while ensuring long-term durability and reduced maintenance requirements.

The Solution

We delivered a comprehensive refurbishment and extension programme designed to restore the building’s structural integrity and improve its overall performance.

The works included the construction of a new extension together with extensive repairs to the existing building fabric. Roofing works comprised re-roofing, replacement and repair of decayed roof timbers, new leadwork, and improvements to rainwater goods.

Further improvements included the replacement of all external doors and windows, structural repairs, brickwork restoration, repointing, and specialist cleaning of the existing building. Internally and externally, the building was fully redecorated to create a bright, modern environment.

Throughout the project, careful planning and quality control ensured the refurbishment works blended seamlessly with the new extension while maintaining the building’s character and functionality.

The Outcome

The completed project has provided Gladstone Primary Academy with a modernised nursery facility that is both visually enhanced and structurally improved.

The extensive refurbishment works have significantly extended the life of the building, addressing historic defects while improving weather protection, energy performance, and long-term durability.

The new extension and upgraded accommodation have created a more functional and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Through a combination of restoration, repair, and modernisation works, the project has delivered a high-quality educational facility that will continue to support the academy’s needs for many years to come while reducing future maintenance requirements and enhancing the overall appearance of the site.
