RAEBUILD successfully delivered a new modular building to replace an existing classroom block that had reached the end of its useful life. The new facility provides two modern classrooms, together with supporting spaces including a breakout area, kitchen, stores, cloakroom, pupil toilets, and an accessible staff WC.
The school required the replacement of an existing classroom block that had reached the end of its useful life. The brief was to provide a new modular building containing two classrooms and a range of supporting facilities, including a breakout area, kitchen, cloakroom, stores, pupil toilets, and an accessible staff WC. A covered walkway was also required to improve access between facilities.
A key project objective was to position the new building close to the existing classroom block, ensuring no additional school land was required while minimising the impact on neighbouring properties and existing parking arrangements. The proposed 177.25m² facility was designed to provide modern, flexible teaching accommodation that would support the school’s current and future needs.
RAEBUILD delivered a modern modular classroom building designed to complement the scale and appearance of the original facility while improving accessibility and performance. Constructed using an insulated timber frame system with timber cladding, elements were manufactured off-site before assembly on site, helping to improve efficiency and build quality.
The design incorporated ramped access throughout, alongside enhanced insulation, high-performance glazing, and increased natural light and ventilation to create a comfortable, energy-efficient learning environment. Close collaboration with the client and the contract administrator ensured all key specifications were agreed, while careful planning minimised disruption to the school and surrounding community.
The project successfully replaced an outdated classroom block with a modern, high-quality learning facility designed to meet the school’s current and future needs. The new building provides two spacious classrooms, enhanced teaching facilities, and a range of supporting spaces, creating a comfortable, accessible, and flexible environment for pupils and staff.
Delivered with minimal disruption to the live school environment, the completed facility offers significantly improved energy efficiency, accessibility, and long-term durability. The investment has provided Mesty Croft Primary School with a fit-for-purpose building that will serve the school community for many years to come while supporting a wider range of educational and extracurricular activities.
