Extension & Refurbishment

Client: Queensbridge Comprehensive School

Overview

RAEBUILD successfully completed a phased extension and refurbishment project at Queensbridge Comprehensive School, delivering significant improvements to the school’s teaching, sports, and recreational facilities. The project included the refurbishment of the existing gymnasium building, the creation of a new activities room extension, enhancements to design and technology teaching spaces, and the development of new landscaped amenity areas.

The Brief

The project brief was to modernise and enhance existing school facilities to better support both the curriculum and wider extracurricular activities. Key requirements included the refurbishment of the existing gymnasium building, the creation of a new activities room, improvements to design and technology teaching spaces, and the provision of new landscaped external amenity areas for pupils.

A major consideration was the need to deliver the works within a live school environment, with construction activities carefully phased around holiday periods and the school’s timetable.

The objective was to create modern, flexible, and fit-for-purpose facilities that would improve the learning experience, support a wider range of activities, and enhance the overall school environment.

The Solution

We delivered a comprehensive programme of refurbishment and extension works designed to maximise the functionality and longevity of the school’s facilities. The gymnasium building underwent a full refurbishment, including the installation of a new single-ply roof membrane, replacement aluminium windows, and upgraded internal toilet and changing facilities.

A new extension was constructed to provide a dedicated activities room, while new landscaped areas were created to offer attractive outdoor amenity space for pupils. Within the design and technology department, existing partitions were removed to create flexible open-plan teaching areas suitable for IT, woodwork, mechanics, and practical learning activities. A food technology room was also refurbished and adapted to meet modern teaching requirements.

The Outcome

The completed project has provided Queensbridge Comprehensive School with a significantly enhanced learning and recreational environment. Refurbished sports facilities, improved teaching spaces, and new outdoor amenity areas have created a more modern and versatile campus that supports both educational and wellbeing objectives.

The upgraded design and technology facilities now offer flexible, collaborative learning environments, while the improved gymnasium and activities spaces provide enhanced opportunities for physical education and extracurricular activities.

Carefully planned and delivered around the school’s operational requirements, the works were completed during holiday periods and term time to minimise disruption while providing modern, high-quality facilities for pupils and staff.
