Modular Classroom Builds & Refurbishments

Overview

RAEBUILD successfully delivered a programme of new modular classroom buildings and refurbishment works at Sandford Hill Primary School. The project formed part of a wider initiative to improve the condition, capacity, and functionality of the school estate, providing additional teaching accommodation alongside significant upgrades to existing facilities. The scheme included the construction of two new modular classroom blocks, the demolition and replacement of an ageing mobile classroom, and a series of internal refurbishment works designed to enhance both pupil and staff facilities.

The Brief

Sandford Hill Primary School required additional teaching accommodation and improvements to existing facilities as part of an ongoing programme of estate investment.

The brief called for the construction of a new elevated modular classroom block on sloping ground to provide increased pupil capacity, together with the demolition and replacement of an existing mobile classroom building that had reached the end of its operational life.

Alongside the new classroom provision, the school sought to enhance key internal areas to better support both pupils and staff. This included the refurbishment and upgrading of the existing kitchen, the creation of a dedicated food technology room, improvements to staff welfare facilities through a new staffroom, refurbishment of pupil changing rooms, and the provision of additional storage.

A key project objective was to phase the works carefully to ensure teaching activities could continue uninterrupted throughout the construction programme.

The Solution

We delivered the project through a carefully coordinated programme of new-build and refurbishment works. A new modular classroom block (Block A) was constructed on piers to accommodate the site’s sloping topography, providing modern teaching accommodation while making efficient use of the available land.

A second modular classroom building (Block B) was delivered to replace the existing mobile classroom following its demolition, ensuring continuity of teaching provision throughout the project.

Within the main school building, refurbishment works were undertaken to improve a range of facilities. The existing kitchen was upgraded, a new food technology room was created, and a modern staffroom was developed to provide enhanced welfare facilities.

Additional works included the refurbishment of pupil changing rooms and the creation of further storage areas. Through careful phasing and close collaboration with the school, the project was delivered with minimal disruption to pupils, staff, and daily school operations.

The Outcome

The completed project has significantly enhanced the educational environment at Sandford Hill Primary School by providing modern teaching accommodation and improved supporting facilities.

The new classroom buildings have increased pupil capacity while replacing outdated accommodation with high-quality, durable learning spaces designed to meet the school’s long-term needs.

The refurbishment works have improved key operational areas within the school, providing enhanced facilities for teaching, food technology, staff welfare, and pupil activities.

Delivered without any loss of teaching provision during construction, the project has created a more efficient, functional, and future-ready learning environment that will continue to benefit pupils, staff, and the wider school community for years to come.
