Masonry Conservation Repairs

Client: Staffordshire County Council

Overview

RAEBUILD successfully completed a programme of masonry conservation repairs on Tipping Street, Stafford, for Staffordshire County Council on behalf of Entrust. The project focused on preserving and restoring a section of historic boundary wall adjacent to the Shrewsbury Arms public house, ensuring its long-term stability while maintaining its historic character.

The Brief

The project involved the conservation and repair of a historic masonry wall that had deteriorated over time due to weathering, vegetation growth, and general ageing.

The brief required sensitive restoration works to address structural defects, remove damaging plant growth, and repair areas of failing brickwork and masonry while retaining the wall’s original character and appearance.

The Solution

We undertook a series of specialist conservation works designed to preserve the historic fabric of the structure. The works included the removal of all foliage and root systems from the brickwork, cleaning of both brick and stone surfaces, repointing and rendering repairs, replacement of defective bricks using reclaimed materials, and the careful rebuilding of the central arch.

All works were completed using traditional techniques and materials appropriate to the age and character of the structure.

The Outcome

The completed conservation works have restored the condition and appearance of the historic wall while protecting it from further deterioration. The project has enhanced the visual character of the area, improved structural integrity, and helped preserve an important piece of Stafford’s built heritage for future generations.
