Four determined walkers are taking on an incredible challenge later this month to raise funds for The Matt Gallagher Foundation.
The team will consist of Paul Edwards, Director at RAEBUILD, who will be joined by Peter Hughes from the company, along with their close friend and organiser of the event, Mark Wheatley and Jon Brookes. Together, the group will tackle the West Highland Way, a gruelling 96-mile trek through the stunning yet demanding Scottish Highlands. Starting in Milngavie (near Glasgow) and ending in Fort William, the walk take 7 days to complete and will commence late September.
The walk is being undertaken in support of The Matt Gallagher Foundation, which provides vital funding and practical assistance for families living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Recently, their good friend and golf buddy Steve was diagnosed with Progressive Bulbar Palsy (PBP), a rare form of MND. This devastating neurological condition affects balance, movement, breathing, speech, and swallowing. Steve’s diagnosis was a huge shock to everyone who knows him, and the team wanted to do something meaningful to show their support
Speaking about the challenge, Paul Edwards, Director of RAEBUILD, said:
“This is more than just a walk for us—it’s about making a real difference. The Matt Gallagher Foundation funds essential local support for people living with MND, including specialist nursing care. We’ve seen first-hand the impact this has had on families, and we wanted to do something positive to give back. Ninety-six miles over seven days is going to be tough, but knowing why we’re doing it will keep us moving. Any support people can give-big or small-will mean the world.”
The team has been training hard in preparation for the challenge, clocking up miles on local trails to build stamina ahead of the demanding hike. Every donation made will go directly towards helping the foundation continue its invaluable work supporting MND patients and their families.
